3–5" Bull Rock
At 3 to 5 inches, bull rock is heavy enough to hold in fast-moving water and large enough to read as a landscape feature on its own. Use it where smaller stone would wash downstream or where you want visual weight in a rock bed.
What it is used for
- High-flow drainage channels and outfalls
- Dry creek beds with visual scale
- Slope armoring and rip-rap
- Accent boulders and rock groupings
Depth & coverage
Recommended depth
6 inches minimum in active channels.
Coverage
One cubic yard covers about 54 square feet at 6 inches deep.
Installation tips
- 1Set the largest stones first, then fill between them with smaller rock.
- 2Fabric underneath is not optional in a drainage channel.
- 3Vary stone placement instead of spreading evenly — it looks far more natural.
