Crushed Granite
Crushed granite, often called decomposed granite or DG, is a warm tan blend of granite chips and fines. Compacted, it firms into a stable natural-looking surface that handles foot traffic, wheelbarrows, and light vehicle use.
What it is used for
- Garden paths and decomposed granite patios
- Fire pit and seating areas
- Dog runs and side-yard access
- Natural-look driveway surfacing
Depth & coverage
Recommended depth
3 inches compacted for paths and patios; 4 inches for driveways.
Coverage
One cubic yard covers about 108 square feet at 3 inches deep.
Installation tips
- 1Wet it and plate-compact in two lifts. Uncompacted DG tracks into the house.
- 2Contain it with steel edging so it does not creep into the lawn.
- 3On slopes over about 5 percent, DG will migrate. Use a stabilizer or step the grade.
