Gravel & Stone

Septic Gravel

Septic gravel is washed and graded to the size range drain fields require. Uniform stone with no fines keeps the voids open so effluent can disperse into the soil the way the system was designed to work.

What it is used for

  • Septic drain fields and leach lines
  • Aerobic system rock beds
  • Dry wells and seepage pits
  • Any trench that must stay permanently free-draining

Depth & coverage

Recommended depth

6 inches under the pipe and 2 inches over it, or per your permit.

Coverage

One cubic yard covers about 54 square feet at 6 inches deep.

Installation tips

  1. 1Follow the depth and volume on your permit — inspectors check it.
  2. 2Cover the rock bed with filter fabric before backfilling with soil.
  3. 3Keep vehicles off a finished drain field. Compaction ruins dispersal.
